Raleigh Solid Waste Services (SWS) is implementing measures during seasonal heat waves to prevent staff injuries and illnesses caused by a high heat index. The heat index reflects what a temperature feels like to the average person when relative humidity is combined with the air temperature. During these weather-related occurrences, some customers may experience minor delays in collection.

"We request that carts placed at the curb remain until they are serviced," stated an SWS representative. "The city will not issue warnings or fines during these periods." When necessary, collections will continue into the weekend to ensure that customers receive service.

City personnel are preparing contingencies to address future weather-related scenarios in anticipation of similar weather trends. Staff will share information on changes affecting curbside collection services and the Raleigh Yard Waste Center at Raleighnc.gov. Customers can also download the free Raleigh Reuse App to receive information on service changes and updates.
