The Carolina Hurricanes granted their roster a day off following their Round 1 series victory over the New York Islanders. However, team President and General Manager Don Waddell continued his work, addressing several topics with the media.

Tony DeAngelo's injury from a slash by Pierre Engvall in Game 5 raised concerns, but x-rays showed no damage. "That shouldn't be an issue at all," Waddell stated regarding DeAngelo's status. Brett Pesce, who suffered a lower-body injury earlier in the series, may return during Round 2. "Brett is out of his walking boot... he'll play games in this round," Waddell confirmed.

Jesper Fast's neck injury from April 16 remains serious. Initially expected to miss only days, it was later revealed he might be out for the entire postseason. Fast will be re-evaluated around May 15 after wearing a neck brace for weeks. "This isn't a Rod or Don decision... This is purely a doctor's (decision)," said Waddell.

Contract talks for coach Rod Brind'Amour have been ongoing amid speculation linking him to the Seattle Kraken job after Dave Hakstol's dismissal. Waddell expressed confidence that Brind'Amour would remain with the Hurricanes: "Rod wants to be a Hurricane for life."

Waddell also discussed securing an American Hockey League affiliation for the next season following their split with the Chicago Wolves last year. He mentioned progress towards finalizing a deal soon: "I feel very confident that we're going to have a place for all of our prospects to play."

Round 2 schedule details are pending completion of other series and building availability considerations.
