Rod Brind'Amour, the head coach of the Carolina Hurricanes, remained non-committal regarding his choice of starting goaltender for Game 5 against the New York Rangers. During Monday's practice at Madison Square Garden, Frederik Andersen was positioned in what is typically the starter's crease, while Pytor Kochetkov occupied the opposite end.
When questioned about whether Andersen would start for a second consecutive game, Brind'Amour replied with a simple "Maybe." He elaborated on the decision-making process by stating, "A lot goes into (the decision) now because (how each goalie is feeling) is the number one concern. We had a good rotation going; do we go back to that because that's when we had the most success? There's been a lot of discussions."
In their recent performances, Andersen stopped 22 out of 25 shots in Saturday's Game 4 victory, which necessitated another trip to New York. Meanwhile, Kochetkov also made 22 saves from 25 shots but suffered an overtime loss in Game 3.
The Hurricanes are expected to maintain their successful lineup from Raleigh in front of their netminder. Coach Brind'Amour mentioned that Brett Pesce has resumed skating after sustaining a lower-body injury during Game 2 of Round 1; however, Pesce did not participate in Monday's morning skate.
Tonight's betting odds provided by Fanatics Sportsbook list the Hurricanes at -115.
The projected lineup for tonight includes forwards Guentzel-Aho-Svechnikov and Martinook-Drury-Necas among others. The defense pairs are Slavin-Burns and Skjei-DeAngelo. The starting goaltender remains to be determined.
Injuries affecting the team include Jesper Fast with an upper-body injury and Brett Pesce with a lower-body injury. Scratches for tonight's game include Jackson Blake and Dylan Coghlan among others.
Power play units feature Aho, Jarvis, Svechnikov, Teravainen with Skjei on PP1 and Guentzel, Kuznetsov, Necas, Noesen with DeAngelo/Burns on PP2.
The game is scheduled to take place at Madison Square Garden at 7:00 p.m.
