The Carolina Hurricanes are in the midst of their season, with new team members adjusting to their roles. Among them is defenseman Sean Walker, who recently shared his experiences and thoughts on joining the team.
Walker expressed satisfaction with his move to Raleigh, saying, "Good, me and my wife are feeling really comfortable here. We love the area and we're definitely getting settled. The team's made it very easy on us."
Reflecting on his career stability after a busy previous season, Walker noted, "It's good, I think that was something that was really important to me in free agency, that I wanted a long-term deal and hopefully get to put some roots down. And we love the area, love the team, love the culture here so want to be here for a long time."
When asked about his initial experience in the NHL, Walker recalled playing alongside notable players like Ilya Kovalchuk and Anze Kopitar during his first game with the Kings. He described it as "pretty special."
Walker also spoke about his current defensive partner Shayne Gostisbehere: "Offensive...player...I'll just say good guy. I won't be mean." When considering an ideal pairing from any era of NHL players, he mentioned both Gostisbehere and Bobby Orr.
Outside of hockey aspirations, Walker revealed a fondness for golf but admired football's setup if health permits participation. Despite being primarily a hockey enthusiast growing up, he cheered for teams like the Toronto Maple Leafs.
On personal preferences outside sports: Walker enjoys chicken parm as his favorite meal; he sets two alarms each morning; identifies as a night owl; and passes time on flights by either playing cards or watching movies.
Walker’s integration into the Hurricanes has been positively received by both him and his teammates as they look forward to continuing their successful season.
