Rod Brind'Amour, a prominent figure in the Carolina Hurricanes organization, was honored with membership to the Order of the Long Leaf Pine. This recognition, presented by North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper, acknowledges individuals who have made significant contributions to the state and their communities through exemplary service and accomplishments.
Governor Cooper announced this accolade in the team's locker room following a victory. He praised Brind'Amour's impact on North Carolina as a player, coach, parent, and his involvement in youth hockey. "What he's meant to North Carolina has been extraordinary," Cooper stated. "When you think about all of the jobs that the Carolina Hurricanes have brought to North Carolina and their success - and the interest (that they've created), seeing all these families coming out here - this guy has created a culture of winning, working hard, and getting rewarded for your hard work."
Brind'Amour joins other esteemed sports coaches like Duke's Mike Krzyzewski and UNC's Roy Williams in receiving this honor. In response to receiving this recognition, Brind'Amour expressed humility and gratitude. "We've got such a good group and being singled out for something that I've done... I haven't done anything, I was part of a group of great people all along and I've just been here the longest," he said. "It's a great honor. That's all I really can say. I'm humbled and grateful."
Governor Cooper has long been an enthusiastic supporter of the Hurricanes, witnessing their evolution from newcomers to champions. Reflecting on Brind'Amour's contributions as both player and coach, Cooper added, "He brought us a Stanley Cup when he played in 2006 and I had season tickets. I watched every game, almost, and every game in the playoffs."
In addition to his coaching achievements, Brind'Amour's dedication to youth hockey further solidifies his role as an honorary North Carolina “Ambassador.”
