The Carolina Hurricanes faced a setback on Friday night, falling to the Washington Capitals 3-1 at Capital One Arena. Despite Seth Jarvis scoring his ninth goal of the season in the third period, the Hurricanes could not overcome Charlie Lindgren's 24 saves.
The game saw Washington take an early lead with a goal in the final minute of the first period. The Capitals extended their advantage with two more goals late in the second period, leaving Carolina struggling to catch up.
Pyotr Kochetkov managed 19 saves on 22 shots for Carolina. While the Hurricanes' penalty-killing unit succeeded against Washington's power play, maintaining an impressive record of killing off 85.5% of penalties this season, their own power play has been less effective, converting only one out of its last 13 opportunities.
Sebastian Aho continued his strong performance with another assist, marking points in three consecutive games and tallying points in 11 of his last 13 outings.
Carolina head coach Rod Brind'Amour expressed dissatisfaction with the team's first-period performance: "I didn't like the first period. We were not very good and we gave up a late goal, which you don't want to do, obviously."
Seth Jarvis emphasized the impact of conceding late-period goals: "You can't give up goals in the last minute of periods. It sucks the life out of anything that you've built going into the intermission."
Tyson Jost noted lapses during crucial moments: "We were good at times, but just not for the full 60. That one stings."
Looking ahead, Carolina will rest on Saturday before facing off against the New York Rangers on Sunday at Madison Square Garden.
