The Carolina Hurricanes are set to face the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden on Sunday, aiming to rebound from a recent defeat. The team managed only one goal against the Washington Capitals on Friday and will now challenge Igor Shesterkin, the Rangers' goaltender.

Head coach Rod Brind'Amour expressed concerns over Andrei Svechnikov's performance before the game, noting that he has only one five-on-five goal in 32 games. "He needs to have more than that, or that question (of his production) is going to keep coming up," said Brind'Amour.

With no morning skate due to an early start, the Hurricanes' lineup remains uncertain. Brind'Amour is known for adjusting forward lines after low-scoring games, which might happen today. The starting goaltender also remains unnamed; it could be Pyotr Kochetkov or Dustin Tokarski in his second appearance for the Hurricanes.

Fanatics Sportsbook has set the odds at Canes -150 as of publishing time.

On Friday against Washington, the Hurricanes' lineup included forwards Robinson, Aho, Jarvis; Svechnikov, Kotkaniemi, Necas; Martinook, Staal, Carrier; and Roslovic, Jost, Blake. The defense comprised Slavin and Burns; Orlov and Chatfield; Gostisbehere and Walker. Pyotr Kochetkov was in goal with Dustin Tokarski as backup.

The team faces several injuries: Jack Drury (hand) is out for at least four weeks from December 12; Frederik Andersen (knee) is out 8-12 weeks from November 22; Jesper Fast (neck) is out for the 2024-25 season. Riley Stillman was listed as a scratch.

The power play units feature Aho, Jarvis, Necas, Svechnikov with Gostisbehere on PP1 and Blake, Jost, Kotkaniemi with Roslovic and Burns on PP2.

The game begins at 12:30 p.m. in New York.
