After an early setback, the Carolina Hurricanes overcame the New York Rangers with a 3-1 win at Madison Square Garden on Sunday. Jimmy Vesey put the Rangers ahead just 17 seconds into the game, but the Hurricanes responded strongly in the second period.

William Carrier scored first for Carolina, capitalizing on a loose puck near the crease. Jack Roslovic then drew a high-sticking penalty and returned to score from Dmitry Orlov's pass during a power play, giving his team a 2-1 lead. Sebastian Aho sealed the victory with an empty-net goal in the final period.

Carolina's goalie Pyotr Kochetkov was instrumental in their win, making 22 saves and assisting two goals. "He was good," said Rod Brind'Amour about Kochetkov's performance. "They made a nice play [early], but then after that, he was solid."

Kochetkov also became notable for being only the second goalie in franchise history to achieve a multi-point game, joining Kay Whitmore from the Hartford Whalers era.

The Hurricanes' defense successfully held off four Rangers power-play opportunities and continued their streak of nine games without allowing a power-play goal.

Captain Jordan Staal achieved his 400th NHL assist during Carrier's goal. Reflecting on their recovery from an early deficit, Jack Roslovic commented, "It was just a good effort all the way through."

Following this victory, Carolina will face off against Nashville Predators on Monday night.
