Lake Wheeler Park is offering a series of fishing activities and workshops to help individuals get started with fishing. The park office provides a Rod and Reel Tackle Loaner program where visitors can borrow fishing poles, though bait is not included.
The North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission (NCWRC) will conduct two fishing workshops at Lake Wheeler Park. The Introductory Fishing Workshop on February 22 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. aims to equip participants with essential skills and knowledge for successful fishing experiences. Instructors from NCWRC will cover various topics to build confidence in new anglers.
Another workshop, Catfishing Basics, is scheduled for March 22 from 9 a.m. to noon. This session focuses on teaching the basics of targeting catfish in North Carolina's coastal rivers and reservoirs. It is suitable for both beginners and those looking to enhance their fishing skills.
The park also offers Intro to Fishing Classes led by experienced staff who will demonstrate bank fishing techniques at the pond within Lake Wheeler Park. Supplies are provided, but participants may bring their own equipment if preferred.
A Family Class is set for March 1 from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m., open to ages 10 and older accompanied by an adult. An Adult Class will take place on April 5 from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m., catering to individuals aged 18 and older. Both classes require a fee of $6.
