Today, Governor Josh Stein addressed the recent General Fund Revenue Forecast released by the Office of State Budget and Management. In his statement, Governor Stein acknowledged the positive nature of this year's revenue forecast but expressed concerns about an impending fiscal challenge.
Governor Stein stated, "While today’s consensus revenue forecast for this year is positive, North Carolina is approaching a fiscal cliff that threatens our ability to invest in rebuilding western North Carolina, strong public schools, people’s health, infrastructure, and other services we need to make North Carolina safer and stronger."
He emphasized that despite the state's growing economy and population, there are looming financial issues that need addressing. The governor committed to collaborating with the legislature to find solutions for continued investment in North Carolina's future. "With a growing economy and population, it shouldn't be this way. I am committed to working with the legislature to develop solutions that allow us to continue to invest in our state’s future," he added.
