The City of Raleigh Museum is inviting the public to participate in its Lunch Box Lectures, a series that encourages attendees to bring their lunch and enjoy an informative talk every third Thursday of the month. The event takes place from noon to 12:45 p.m., is open to all ages, and is free of charge.
This March, Erica Winston from the Raleigh Garden Club will present a lecture on "Women-owned green businesses of the early 20th century." Her discussion will explore how garden clubs emerged during this time as a "shadow economy," assisting families through the Great Depression by providing financial support and offering women opportunities to display their talents and gain recognition.
In April, Russ Stephenson will focus on "the history of the Isabelle Bowen Henderson House and Gardens." Attendees will learn about this hidden gem located in West Raleigh, which has been designated as a Raleigh Historic Landmark. The lecture promises insights into how history, architecture, and horticulture are intertwined at this site.
Both lectures aim to engage participants with historical narratives tied closely to community development and cultural heritage.
