The Carolina Hurricanes have successfully reached their $1 million fundraising target for Hurricane Helene relief efforts in Western North Carolina. Doug Warf, President of the NHL team, confirmed the achievement and announced six additional beneficiaries who will receive a total of $450,000. The funds are primarily allocated for the restoration and recovery of essential community parks in the region.

“We are thankful for our fans, partners, players and ownership for helping us reach the ambitious goal of raising $1 million to help Western North Carolina recover from the devastating effects of Hurricane Helene,” Warf stated. He emphasized the team's commitment to supporting communities across the Carolinas in their rebuilding efforts.

Among the recipients is Canton All Abilities Playground in Haywood County, which will receive $100,000 to repair equipment damaged by the storm. Valle Crucis Community Park in Watauga County will also benefit from a $100,000 donation to improve facilities impacted by storm damage.

Wade Tipton Field in Mitchell County has been allocated $150,000 for repairs following severe storm damage. Shultz Circle Park in Avery County will use its $25,000 donation to restore damaged facilities. Ray Cort Park in Yancey County faces similar challenges and will receive $25,000 for trail and playground repairs.

Only Hope WNC in Hendersonville has experienced increased demand due to housing crises post-storm. The organization received a $50,000 donation to refurbish dormitory and bathroom facilities with Hurricanes team colors.

"As we work to support the recovery from Hurricane Helene," said Amy Daniels, Executive Director of the Carolina Hurricanes Foundation, "we are incredibly proud to make gifts that will help rebuild and revitalize spaces that are at the heart of communities."

The Hurricanes initiated fundraising efforts back in September through various events such as community preseason games and special auctions. Previous recipients included other organizations dedicated to community recovery efforts.

The Carolina Hurricanes Foundation continues its mission as an agent of change within communities both on and off the ice by addressing health and educational needs among underserved populations.
