The City of Raleigh’s Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources Department has marked a one-mile portion of the Crabtree Creek Trail as the City's Greenway Innovation Corridor. This corridor, stretching between Kiwanis Park and Atlantic Avenue, will serve as a testing ground for new technologies aimed at enhancing user experience and safety on the trail.

One of the key innovations to be trialed in this section is the application of a glow-in-the-dark centerline stripe. This stripe will be introduced in early April to assess new glow-in-the-dark pavement marking paints. The goal is to improve trail safety in low-light conditions, especially during the hour following sunset. Success of this project could allow trail users to continue their activities with improved visibility during the evening, which is particularly important in the winter months when days are shorter.
