The N.C. Coastal Reserve and National Estuarine Research Reserve will be holding meetings for local advisory committees on April 22-23. The meetings will take place in person and will be open to the public.
The Rachel Carson Reserve meeting is set for April 22 at 3 p.m. It will be held at the NOAA Beaufort Laboratory's Administration Building, located at 101 Pivers Island Rd, Beaufort, NC 28516. On April 23 at 1 p.m., the Kitty Hawk Woods Reserve meeting will occur at the Kitty Hawk Town Hall, 101 Veterans Memorial Dr, Kitty Hawk, NC 27949.
Local advisory committees are comprised of residents and representatives from community organizations, government agencies, and non-governmental partner organizations. They provide guidance and feedback to the Division of Coastal Management’s Coastal Reserve and National Estuarine Research Reserve staff regarding program activities and management of reserve sites.
The North Carolina Division of Coastal Management is part of the N.C. Department of Environmental Quality. It works to protect, conserve, and manage coastal resources in North Carolina's 20 coastal counties. The N.C. Coastal Reserve and National Estuarine Research Reserve Program has been preserving unique coastal environments for education, research, and traditional uses since 1989. The program has preserved more than 44,000 acres across 10 sites along the coast.
