Construction for the North-South Greenway Connector downtown started on Sept. 8, Raleigh officials said.
Once completed, the area will have bike lanes on northbound West Street and southbound Harrington Street from North to Martin street, Raleigh officials said in a news release. The new construction will add a bike connection from Glenwood South to the Warehouse District. The streets will also feature a one-way separated bike lane that links to multiple venues in Raleigh's downtown.
Along with the bike lane, construction will also include new flexible bollards and bike paint markings, Raleigh officials said in the release. Pedestrians will also benefit from a more massive divide from car traffic as cyclists will be able to ride safely without going into traffic.
The project is slated to finish within the next 30 days.
The city and contractor are working together to guarantee that the construction area will not inconvenience those in the area.
