Town of Wake Forest issued the following announcement on Jul. 31.
Starting Monday, Aug. 2, employees and visitors to the Wake Forest Town Hall and other Town facilities will be required to wear face masks or coverings - regardless of vaccination status.
“The resurgence in new cases of COVID-19 fueled by the delta variant has made it necessary for us to reinstate our mask requirement in all Town facilities,” said Wake Forest Mayor Vivian Jones. “We are not starting over, but out of an abundance of caution, we are taking a step back. From the outset of the pandemic, we have emphasized that our top priority is the health and safety of our employees and residents. To get through this, we must remain vigilant.”
Earlier today, officials announced that Wake County has experienced a 279% surge in COVID-19 cases since the beginning of June. In addition, over the last two weeks, Wake County hospitalizations due to COVID-19 have increased more than 73%, while across North Carolina they have doubled.
Due to the increasing numbers, Wake County has moved back into the orange zone in the NC Department of Health and Human Services COVID-19 County Alert System, which means substantial community spread.
On July 27, the Centers for Disease Control recommended that everyone in areas designated as substantial spread wear a mask in public indoor settings, even those people who are fully vaccinated, to help prevent the spread of the delta variant and protect others.
Free COVID-19 vaccines are available to anyone 12 and older at more than 200 providers in Wake County by appointment or walk-in. Wake County Public Health has opened vaccination clinics throughout the county, including one at the Northern Regional Center, 350 E. Holding Ave. No ID is required.
