CITY OF RALEIGH: Public Comment Voicemail Now an Option for City Council Meeting Participation

city of Raleigh issued the following announcement on Sept. 12.

There is a new way for residents to participate in Raleigh City Council meetings – voicemail. Beginning with the Sept. 20 City Council regular meeting, residents will be able to phone in ahead of meetings and leave up to a three-minute voicemail message. This option allows people who may not be able to or want to attend meetings in-person to participate.

It's easy to participate! Simply dial 919-301-9499.

You’ll be instructed to leave your name and address and be asked to follow the City Council Rules of Decorum. You will have three minutes to leave your comment related to the upcoming meeting agenda. Further instructions are available on our Public Comment page. You may leave messages in multiple languages.

When can I leave my voicemail message?

City Council regular meetings fall on the first and third Tuesday of the month. Public comment by voicemail will open at 5 p.m. on Thursday prior to the meeting and close at 5 p.m. Monday. Information about City Council meeting dates, minutes and agendas is updated regularly.

Will my voicemail comment reach City Council members?

Yes! All comments will be sent to the full City Council prior to the council meeting. They will review the comments and take them into consideration. Please note: callers will be instructed to leave their name and address and to follow Rules of Decorum.

What does it mean if I call the number and it’s not working? The Raleigh City Council public comment voicemail line is only open for the four-day window, Thursday at 5 p.m. through Monday at 5 p.m. ahead of the regular Tuesday meeting. Outside of that time period, you will hear this message: “We’re sorry, phone comments are not currently being accepted for Raleigh City Council Meetings.”

How else do I reach my Council representative? You can send a message to your Council representative any time. Please find contact information on the City Council section near the bottom of our homepage.
