Charges have been filed in connection with the Cary High School code red lockdown that occurred earlier last week.

“The event occurred in an isolated area and so there wasn’t a lot of people to hear what happened,” Cary Police Chief Terry Sult said in a CBS 17 report. “The discharge of a weapon. Then when we received the report it was a confirmation, at the same time there was some other things going on that the school realized that an incident occurred at about that same time.”

Cary Police had responded to Cary High School for a report of gunfire last Wednesday. A student had called 911 after hearing the shot. A single round was fired in a bathroom, damaging a toilet, police said, confirming that nobody was injured in the incident.

Juvenile petitions have now been filed against two students by Investigators. In North Carolina, anyone under the age of 18 who commits a crime is charged via juvenile petition, according to police.

Although no one was hurt, parents were still unsettled the day after the event made news.

“I did come here as soon as possible but it was a little crazy,” parent Khonsavanh Manivanh said in the report. “It was a lot of people, a lot of parents, a lot going on but my son was safe, both my sons were safe."

Sult said it took 45 minutes to an hour from when the incident happened to when the 911 call came in.

“The event occurred in an isolated area and so there wasn’t a lot of people to hear what happened.

As soon as police confirmed that the incident had occurred, he said, officers quickly took action and issued the code red lockdown.

The Wake County District Attorney’s Office now has the case.
