County of Wake issued the following announcement on Jan. 23.
If you live, work or play in the Middle Creek community – located in the southern part of Wake County bordering Johnston and Harnett counties – planners want your input on future land use and growth in that area.
They’re asking for feedback as they develop the Middle Creek Area Plan, which will guide decisions about the community’s “built environment” – the homes, buildings, streets, open spaces and infrastructure.
The Middle Creek plan is one of six being developed or updated as part of the implementation of the county’s comprehensive plan, PLANWake. Adopted in April 2021, PLANWake charts a course to guide growth over the next 10 years.
“Residents’ insight and input are critical as we work to put PLANWake into action,” said Shinica Thomas, chair, Wake County Board of Commissioners. “As we make decisions that will impact the area for years to come, we need to understand how residents want to see their community develop and hear any concerns they may have.”
Over the next six months, residents will have opportunities to provide vital feedback, which will be integrated into the new plan. There are several ways to play an active role in this process:
Attend a virtual Community Planning Meeting at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 24. Registration is available here or by visiting wakegov.com.

Contact planners directly at areaplan@wakegov.com or 919-856-6310 (option 8).
A second round of public engagement will take place once the draft plan is developed. Staff hope to have the final plan approved in the fall.
The Lower Swift Creek Area Plan was approved by the Wake County Board of Commissioners in October 2022. The remaining four plans, covering the Eastern Watershed, Falls Lake, Neuse Basin and Western Wake areas, will go through the same process over the next two years. Updates will be posted at wakegov.com/areaplan.
