Artist Max Dowdle created two murals at the City's Vehicle Fleet facility off Westinghouse Boulevard, highlighting the City's commitment to green energy.

The murals highlight renewable propane, a plant-based fuel from vegetable oils and other fats. Renewable propane produces far less greenhouse gas emissions than fossil fuels and is essential to the City's Community Climate Action Plan.

Max was inspired to create "In the Land of Clean Energy," which depicts a clean energy machine located among large-scale vegetation, showing how nature and machines can co-exist. The two murals, one on a sustainable propane tank and one on a block wall, are located at the City of Raleigh's Vehicle Fleet at 2550 Westinghouse Blvd.

City staff and some of the City's Climate Action Interns were able to help Max paint sections of the fun project. Check out the video to see the project unfold.  Want to learn more about how Vehicle Fleet Services is working to help the City achieve its goal of reducing the community's greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 80 percent by 2050? About the Artist

Max Dowdle | Artist Statement

Raised in a family of artists and craftspeople, the beauty of the human form and the artistic process was instilled in me from an early age. After earning a Fine Art and Art History double major, I studied classical atelier techniques in Florence, Italy, and have since worked as a professional artist in North Carolina. Specializing in creating public art, I believe that art should reflect and involve the community it serves. Teaching art at all levels and shepherding projects through various stages of community engagement has allowed me to share my passion for working from life and helping others develop their own unique artistic voices. As a seventh-generation North Carolinian, my love for the state inspires my work, and my portfolio includes murals, sculptures, and interventions within natural spaces. Versatility is my medium, and nature is my inspiration.
