The Taxi Inspections Program, administered by the RPD, is set to present a proposed taxi rate increase to the City Council in the coming months. In order to gather feedback on the proposed rate structure, the program has organized comment sessions with all taxi companies in the area.

Two meetings have been scheduled for this purpose. The first meeting took place on January 9th from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Marsh Creek Community Center. The second meeting is scheduled for January 11th from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the RPD Southwest District.

The issue of taxi rates has been a topic of discussion over the past year, with public comment sessions and community meetings addressing concerns related to the GoRaleigh Access program. This program often relies on individual taxi vehicles to provide transportation services to its clients.

As the new year began, it was noticed that fewer independent taxis had renewed their required paperwork for their licenses. However, city staff and the GoRaleigh Access contractor, RATP Dev, have been working diligently to address these operational challenges. Their goal is to ensure that all trips are covered and that the reliability of the transportation service remains consistent.

The comment sessions organized by the Taxi Inspections Program aim to provide an opportunity for taxi companies to express their views on the proposed rate structure. This feedback will be taken into consideration as the program finalizes its rate adjustment proposal to be presented to the City Council in the near future.

The importance of these comment sessions was highlighted by a spokesperson from the Taxi Inspections Program, who stated, "We value the input and perspectives of the taxi companies in our community. These comment sessions allow us to gather valuable feedback that will help shape our rate adjustment proposal."

It is clear that the Taxi Inspections Program recognizes the need for collaboration and open dialogue with the taxi industry in order to ensure a fair and sustainable rate structure. The program is committed to working closely with all stakeholders to address any concerns and make informed decisions regarding taxi rates.

With the upcoming comment sessions and the subsequent presentation to the City Council, the Taxi Inspections Program aims to establish a transparent and inclusive process that takes into account the needs and interests of both the taxi companies and the general public.
