Starting Jan. 27, 2024, utility bill customers will notice a change in the way their bills are presented. While the total service cost will remain the same, solid waste fees and yard waste fees will now be listed separately. This change aims to enhance transparency and provide a clearer breakdown of the cost of accessing all services.

According to a spokesperson from the utility company, the decision to separate the fees is part of an effort to improve the billing process. The spokesperson stated, "We believe that by listing the solid waste and yard waste fees separately, customers will have a better understanding of the cost breakdown. It also allows us to highlight the importance of waste disposal and reuse in our community."

Under the new billing layout, customers will see the following changes:

1. Solid Waste Fee (Garbage) - $12.90/month

2. Yard Waste Fee - $4.90/month

It is important to note that there will be no change in how the recycling fee ($4.60/month) appears on the bill. The recycling fee will continue to be listed separately, as it has been in the past.

The utility company has provided sample graphics illustrating the changes customers may expect to see on their bills. These graphics clearly indicate the sections that will undergo modifications.

The decision to separate the fees is rooted in the responsibility of every community in North Carolina to manage waste disposal and reuse. By funding essential public services through solid waste and reuse fees, the community aims to protect the health and environment of its residents.

In conclusion, starting Jan. 27, 2024, utility bill customers will see a change in the way their bills are presented. The solid waste fees and yard waste fees will now be listed separately, while the recycling fee remains unchanged. This change is intended to enhance transparency and provide customers with a clearer understanding of the cost breakdown. It also highlights the community's commitment to managing waste disposal and reuse for the benefit and sustainability of all residents.
