The City of Raleigh is hosting an Open House event on February 21, 2024, to promote sustainable practices in affordable housing. The event is organized by the Housing and Neighborhoods Department, Raleigh Stormwater, and Office of Sustainability, and is aimed at the development community, including developers, consultants, and architects.
The Open House will take place at the Walnut Creek Wetland Center, specifically in the Neuse Room located at 950 Peterson St, Raleigh, NC. Interested individuals are invited to drop by between 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. to learn more about Green Stormwater Infrastructure (GSI), rooftop solar, and potential incentives and funding for sustainable measures.
According to the Housing and Neighborhoods Department, future competitive Request for Proposals (RFPs) and Notice of Funding Availability's (NOFAs) may offer scoring criteria incentives and financial assistance for developments that meet certain affordable housing, GSI, and solar criteria. This presents an excellent opportunity for developers to explore potential incentives and future funding opportunities.
During the event, City staff will be available to answer questions and provide resources on various topics related to sustainable practices in affordable housing. Some of the specific areas of focus include affordable housing RFP and NOFA criteria, City of Raleigh stormwater regulations, incentives for GSI, national and local examples of GSI in affordable housing, and subsidies for rooftop solar in affordable housing projects.
One of the key concepts being highlighted at the Open House is Green Stormwater Infrastructure (GSI). GSI aims to preserve nature, soil, and waterways by managing, treating, and reducing stormwater runoff from impervious surfaces such as roads, sidewalks, roofs, and driveways. The benefits of GSI are numerous and include improving water and air quality, reducing Urban Heat Island (UHI) impacts, lowering energy consumption, creating wildlife habitat, providing community aesthetics, reducing infrastructure costs, minimizing flooding impacts, and increasing property values.
This event provides an excellent platform for developers and industry professionals to learn more about sustainable practices in affordable housing and explore potential incentives and funding opportunities. By incorporating GSI and rooftop solar into their projects, developers can contribute to a more sustainable and environmentally friendly community.
Don't miss out on this valuable opportunity to engage with City staff and gain valuable insights into the world of sustainable practices in affordable housing. Mark your calendars for February 21, 2024, and join us at the Walnut Creek Wetland Center to learn more about how you can be a part of the sustainable housing movement in Raleigh.
