Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler is set to unveil specifics about the Crop Loss Disaster Program for farmers who faced agricultural crop losses in 2024. The announcement will discuss the opening of the application period and important information relevant to those affected by the substantial agricultural damage.
The details are to be announced on Tuesday, April 1, at 2 p.m. at the Gov. Martin Building, 4285 Trinity Road, State Fairgrounds, Raleigh.
The state experienced a significant agricultural disaster, with losses amounting to nearly $5 billion. Notably, Hurricane Helene accounted for $4.23 billion of the losses, with the remainder due to statewide drought conditions, Tropical Storm Debby, and various weather events. Specifically, crop losses from Hurricane Helene soared over $907 million.
The N.C. General Assembly, on March 19, approved a relief package exceeding $300 million for agricultural crop losses from 2024. This includes $200 million designated for losses in Western N.C. due to Hurricane Helene and more than $100 million for other weather-related damages across the state.
The N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services will manage the Crop Loss Disaster Program to help affected farmers in the region.
