Raleigh is calling on nature enthusiasts and volunteers to participate in the 2024 City Nature Challenge by joining various programs and volunteer events. The challenge aims to identify plants, animals, insects, fungi, and other living organisms using the iNaturalist app on smartphones.
"You can help us identify plants, animals, insects, fungi, and any other living organisms using the free smartphone application called iNaturalist," said the organizers of the City Nature Challenge.
Participants are encouraged to download the "iNaturalist" app from the Google Play or Apple App Store to document their observations. By doing so, they will not only contribute to the global challenge but also help Raleigh compete against other cities worldwide.
"By using the iNaturalist app to document your observations, you'll help Raleigh compete against other cities around the world in the challenge," emphasized the organizers.
The data collected through the iNaturalist app will play a crucial role in informing local natural resources management decisions. This information will be invaluable for preserving and protecting the biodiversity of Raleigh and its surrounding areas.
"The valuable data collected will help inform local natural resources management decisions," highlighted the organizers.
The City Nature Challenge in Raleigh is scheduled to take place from Friday, April 26, to Monday, April 29. Participants of all ages can join the programs and volunteer events for free. Those interested can visit RecLink for Programs or the Raleigh Parks Volunteer Program for more information on how to get involved.
