The City of Raleigh’s Department of Equity and Inclusion recently hosted the Black History Month Celebration titled "African Americans and the Arts" at the City of Raleigh Museum on February 23, 2024. The event aimed to honor the cultural contributions of African Americans through various artistic expressions.

The evening featured local artists who showcased their talents in music, dance, literature, theatre, and other forms of art that reflect the rich experiences of African Americans. The event provided attendees with a platform to immerse themselves in the diverse and vibrant artistic heritage of the African American community.

The event was emceed by Drelise Johnson, Azuriah Massenburg, and Charles Craig, who guided the audience through the captivating performances and presentations of the night. DEI Director Dr. A Hamilton set the tone for the evening by opening with a powerful poem by Maya Angelou, a tribute to the resilience and creativity of African American artists.

One of the highlights of the event was TheGifted Arts performance, which showcased the talent and creativity of local artists dedicated to promoting African American culture through their art. Attendees also had the opportunity to engage with the 360 Booth by S3 Rentals, adding an interactive element to the celebration.

The evening concluded with a mesmerizing performance by the Raleigh Rockers, adding a dynamic and energetic touch to the event. Overall, the Black History Month Celebration: African Americans and the Arts was a resounding success, bringing together the community to celebrate and honor the artistic achievements of African Americans.

As the event aimed to shine a spotlight on the artistic excellence within the African American community, it provided a platform for local artists to showcase their talents and inspire others. The City of Raleigh's Department of Equity and Inclusion's commitment to promoting diversity and cultural awareness was evident throughout the event, creating a meaningful and memorable experience for all those in attendance.
