Pollution Prevention Week, observed from September 16 to September 20, aims to raise awareness about different types of pollution and how to prevent them. The schedule for the week highlights various forms of pollution each day:

- **September 16:** Sediment (soil, gravel, and other solid materials)

- **September 17:** Nutrient (fertilizer, road salt, and detergent)

- **September 18:** Trash and Debris (plastics, waste, and other debris)

- **September 19:** Chemicals (paints, cleaning detergent, and chlorine)

- **September 20:** Pathogens (pet waste, livestock, and sewer overflows)

Residents are encouraged to report any instances of pollution or illegal dumping into the stormwater system by calling the Stormwater Helpline at 919-996-3940 or emailing IllegalDischarge@raleighnc.gov.

The community is also urged to adopt six easy tips to prevent pollution and protect local streams. These include becoming a volunteer for either short-term or long-term commitments.

Examples of pollution include:

- A pond with green algae, grass clippings, and other vegetation floating on top.

- Bottles, paper, and other trash in a stream.

- Vehicle tire marks and sediment in a creek.
