The Raleigh City Council has approved $22.8 million in funding for several affordable housing projects, reinforcing its commitment to addressing the city's housing needs. The new homes will be located near public transportation, grocery stores, and healthcare facilities, facilitating easier access for families living and working in Raleigh.
The council allocated $15.7 million for the construction of 160 affordable homes in the Moore Square area. These apartments will cater to residents earning between 30% and 80% of the area's median income (AMI). The development will include 51 one-bedroom units, 77 two-bedroom units, and 32 three-bedroom units. A portion of these homes will be designated for supportive housing through the North Carolina Housing Finance Agency’s Targeting Program and Wake County’s Rental Assistance Housing Program. These programs aim to provide rental assistance and support services to individuals experiencing homelessness with a disability.
Additionally, the council approved $7.1 million in gap financing to ensure the completion of 294 affordable rental units across two new communities: Maple Ridge and Strickland Apartments.
Maple Ridge will feature 146 homes, comprising 16 one-bedroom units, 82 two-bedroom units, and 48 three-bedroom units. Of these, 41 units will be reserved for households earning between 20% and 50% AMI.
Strickland Apartments will offer 148 homes, including 37 one-bedroom units, 75 two-bedroom units, and 36 three-bedroom units. Similar to Maple Ridge, a portion of these homes will be reserved for those earning between 20% and 60% AMI.
This funding initiative aims to increase the availability of affordable housing options for Raleigh residents as the city continues to expand. For more information on Raleigh's efforts to ensure all residents have access to housing, visit the Housing and Neighborhoods Affordable Housing page.
