The City Council has approved the master plan for a new recreational park along the Neuse River, moving the project into its design and permitting phase. The 80-acre space located downstream of Falls Dam is set to become a destination for outdoor activities with construction scheduled between 2026 and 2028.
The park will feature various amenities including river access points for kayaking, fishing, swimming, and wading. Scenic overlooks will provide relaxing views of the river. Hiking and multi-use trails will connect visitors to the Neuse River Greenway and nearby areas. A nature play area is planned for children to explore, while community spaces such as a lawn and pavilion will be available for gatherings and events. Enhanced amenities like restrooms, water fill stations, and expanded parking are also part of the plan.
Community input played a significant role in shaping the park's design. Throughout 2023 and 2024, local residents participated in surveys, focus groups, and site tours to share their preferences. The feedback helped ensure that the park reflects community desires by preserving natural areas and improving river access.
Funding for this project comes from the 2022 Parks Bond. As construction approaches, there will be opportunities for continued community engagement through updates via email and information on the project's website.
