The Active Adult Program is organizing a trip to the North Carolina Transportation Museum in Spencer, NC. The museum, which was once Southern Railway's largest steam locomotive repair facility in the southeast, now hosts historical structures such as the Barber Junction Depot and the Bob Julian Roundhouse. It offers insights into various modes of transportation history including railroading, automotive, and aviation.

Participants are advised to bring their own lunch as there are no concessions available at the museum. The trip fee includes general admission tickets, a train ride and roundabout, and departmental transportation. Departure will be from Anne Gordon Active Adult Center located at 1901 Spring Forest Road in Raleigh. Registration can be completed online or by contacting one of the Active Adult Centers.

For inquiries regarding the trip or registration details, Carmen Rayfield can be reached at 919-996-4734 or via email at carmen.rayfield@raleighnc.gov. Prior registration for the Active Adult Yearly Trip Registration is required before signing up for any trips.

A comprehensive list of day and multi-day trips offered by the program, along with frequently asked questions, can be found on their website at raleighnc.gov/parks by searching "trip."

The event is scheduled for Thursday, April 24 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., departing from Anne Gordon Center for Active Adults. It is open to individuals aged 50 and over with costs set at $43 for residents and $58 for non-residents. Registration is available through RecLink.
