The North Carolina Coastal Reserve and National Estuarine Research Reserve has scheduled the Spring local advisory committee meetings for April 22-23. These sessions will be held in-person and are open to public participation.

The meetings will take place at specific times and locations for each reserve site. On April 22, the Rachel Carson Reserve meeting is set for 3 p.m. at the NOAA Beaufort Laboratory's Administration Building, located at 101 Pivers Island Rd, Beaufort, NC 28516. The following day, April 23, the gathering at the Kitty Hawk Woods Reserve will commence at 1 p.m. at the Kitty Hawk Town Hall, located at 101 Veterans Memorial Dr, Kitty Hawk, NC 27949.

These advisory committees are made up of residents, community organization members, and representatives from government and non-governmental organizations. Their role is to provide the Division of Coastal Management’s Coastal Reserve and National Estuarine Research Reserve with guidance and feedback concerning program activities and the management of the reserve sites.

The North Carolina Division of Coastal Management operates under the N.C. Department of Environmental Quality and is responsible for protecting, conserving, and managing the state's coastal resources across 20 coastal counties. The N.C. Coastal Reserve and National Estuarine Research Reserve Program is instrumental in safeguarding natural areas for educational purposes, research, and traditional uses that are compatible with these goals. Since its inception in 1989, the program has successfully preserved over 44,000 acres of unique coastal environments spanning 10 sites along the North Carolina coast.
