Governor Josh Stein attended the North Carolina Rehabilitation and Reentry Conference in Raleigh to discuss the state's commitment to public safety through improved reentry processes. The governor emphasized the importance of setting up former inmates for success to ensure safer communities.

“We all benefit when every North Carolinian is able to contribute to our state to the best of their ability,” said Governor Josh Stein. He stressed the significance of job training and healthcare access for those leaving incarceration.

Governor Stein announced that First Lady Anna Stein will participate in these efforts by serving on the Joint Reentry Council. Her involvement is seen as part of her dedication to reentry as a key issue.

Leslie Cooley Dismukes, Secretary of the North Carolina Department of Adult Correction, acknowledged the contributions of various partners. “We are thankful for the work of hundreds of partners attending this week’s reentry conference,” she said.

Governor Stein's proposed 2025-2027 budget addresses educational and healthcare initiatives for incarcerated individuals. The budget also seeks to offer raises for corrections officers to address staffing concerns.

Governor Stein has been involved with the State Reentry Council Collaborative and has shown commitment to the Reentry 2030 initiative, enhancing reentry success nationwide. He aims to reduce recidivism and bolster community safety by providing inmates with educational and health resources before their release.
