Duke Energy is actively addressing the challenges posed by historic flooding in Ohio and Kentucky, particularly in the Greater Cincinnati area. The floods have disrupted essential services and infrastructure, requiring immediate response efforts from the energy provider.

As of Monday morning, the Ohio River reached a crest of 60 feet, marking a significant natural event for the region. Duke Energy has managed to restore power to more than 70,000 customers since the onset of severe weather last Thursday. However, about 100 customers are still without power as restoration continues.

To handle the situation effectively, Duke Energy has conducted around 500 natural gas shutoffs in areas severely affected by the floods. Amy Spiller, president of Duke Energy Ohio/Kentucky, emphasized the company's commitment, stating, "Our crews have answered the call this past week and continue to work hard to restore natural gas and electric services to all of our communities."

The company has issued several safety guidelines for residents concerning electric and gas services. Among them, Duke Energy advises customers to turn off power if evacuating due to flooding or rising water. The importance of avoiding contact with electrical lines and not replacing fuses or touching circuit breakers with wet hands is stressed. Additionally, the company cannot restore power until a licensed electrician inspects the electrical system in flooded homes or businesses.

Natural gas technicians are removing any submerged meters and halting service as a precaution. Customers are informed that gas appliances need safety inspections before reactivation. Any service-related issues or suspected gas leaks should prompt immediate contact with Duke Energy or emergency services.

The latest developments on power outages are provided through Duke Energy’s interactive outage map. Customers can report service disruptions via text, the company’s mobile app, or by phone.

In light of the storms, Duke Energy also warns customers to be vigilant about potential scams. The company insists it will not threaten disconnection or demand payment over the phone.

Duke Energy provides services to over 900,000 customers in Ohio and Kentucky, being one of the largest energy holding companies in the U.S. with a strategic focus on grid upgrades and cleaner energy solutions.

For further information, Duke Energy has made updates accessible via its various communication platforms. Complaints and emergencies can be reported via the company's 24-hour service line.
