Fifteen active adults attended the Wake County Senior Games and Silver Arts Spanish-language demonstration at the Five Points Center for Active Adults on Thursday, Feb. 22. The event aimed to promote active living among people over 50 by showcasing various sports activities and cultural workshops.
Participants had the opportunity to witness demonstrations of table tennis, the softball throw, and cornhole, with the goal of encouraging them to try out the activities to find the one most appealing to them. Additionally, a poetry workshop was offered by poet Olga del Toro as part of the cultural activities at the event.
Following the demonstrations and workshops, participants toured the facilities of the Five Points Center for Active Adults to explore how they can utilize them to stay active and engaged in physical activities.
The main objective of the demonstration was to raise awareness of the Wake County Senior Games, an annual event that promotes active living among individuals over 50. The Senior Games are scheduled to take place from late March through early May, with registration open until the first week of March at a cost of $20. There are also various volunteer opportunities available for those interested in supporting the event.
