The Raleigh Police Department (RPD) has launched a new video series showcasing the training sessions at its Police Academy. The initiative aims to provide potential recruits with an inside look at the academy's rigorous process.

“We want to give potential recruits a better understanding of the training process,” said Darran Todd, a member of RPD’s Public Affairs team. “By providing a glimpse into the process, we hope to encourage more applicants.”

The RPD conducts two police academy sessions annually, each lasting six months. There is no maximum age restriction for joining; however, candidates must meet several criteria:

- Be at least 21 years old at the time of graduation from the Raleigh Police Academy

- Be a high school graduate or equivalent (GED), with college or military experience preferred

- Be a United States citizen or naturalized citizen

- Have good character and moral background

- Be a licensed driver or able to obtain a valid N.C. Driver's License

- Have 20/20 vision (corrected) and not be colorblind

- Meet background, medical, and psychological requirements

The Raleigh Police Department serves nearly 500,000 residents and is recognized for its skilled training and leadership throughout North Carolina.

The final video in the series will feature recruits graduating and officially becoming Raleigh police officers.
