The City of Raleigh is set to begin its annual loose leaf collection on November 12. Residents are encouraged to rake leaves into piles near the curb, but not in the street, for collection by city crews equipped with a vacuum.
Raleigh is divided into 12 zones for this service. This year's collection will start in Zone 5 and continue through other zones as weather permits. Residents can check the schedule or use an interactive map to determine the best days for leaf pickup.
Weather conditions can affect the collection process. Cold and wet weather, including snow and ice, may slow or temporarily stop collections. The city staff monitors forecasts to ensure safe service provision and will update residents if schedules change due to weather events.
Residents are also encouraged to consider alternative leaf management options. Mulching is recommended as it conserves water, reduces weeds, and benefits garden health. Additionally, bi-weekly yard waste collection allows residents to use yard waste carts and up to 15 biodegradable paper bags for leaves during regular pickups.
