The North Carolina Coastal Resources Commission (CRC) will convene on February 26 and 27 at the DoubleTree New Bern Riverfront in New Bern. The public is welcome to attend the meeting in person or watch online.
The CRC's regular business session will start at 3 p.m. on February 26 and continue at 9 a.m. on February 27. A public comment period is set for noon on February 27, where comments may be limited to three minutes per person, as determined by the chair. The Coastal Resources Advisory Council will hold an in-person-only meeting on February 26 at 1 p.m., also at the DoubleTree New Bern Riverfront.
The CRC meeting agenda includes consideration of variance requests for Carolina Beach regarding artificial turf in a buffer zone, North Topsail Beach concerning oceanfront setbacks, and sandbag use by The Shoals Club on Bald Head Island. A public hearing is scheduled for discussing wheat straw bales used in sand fencing.
On February 27, the commission will enter a closed session to update members on CRC vs. RRC issues and other objections from the Rules Review Commission related to procedural matters. The meeting will also cover topics like the history of ocean hazard setbacks, major permit renewals and extensions, recommendations for permanent rulemaking concerning various environmental concerns, and updates on ongoing litigation of interest.
