The Carolina Hurricanes secured a 4-2 victory over the Winnipeg Jets at Lenovo Center. New additions Mark Jankowski and Logan Stankoven each scored in their debut, contributing significantly to the win. The game saw Jankowski score first, with Scott Morrow assisting, marking his first NHL point.
Jankowski doubled the lead early in the second period by scoring again. Stankoven added a power-play goal early in the third period, which became the game-winner. Despite two late goals from Winnipeg, Frederik Andersen made 20 saves on 22 shots to help secure the win.
This victory marked a notable achievement for both players. They became the second and third Hurricanes to score in their debuts this season. The team has now won four consecutive games for the third time this season.
Brent Burns played his 1,479th game on his 40th birthday, joining an exclusive group of franchise players who have played at age 40 or older.
Coach Rod Brind'Amour commented on the newcomers' performance: "That was great for them... those adjustments [are not easy] and to be able to contribute in that fashion is a great way to start for them."
Mark Jankowski expressed satisfaction with his initial experience: "I think a big part of it is confidence... For me, I'm just trying to do whatever I can to help the team win."
Logan Stankoven acknowledged room for improvement: "It felt great... I felt personally that I can give a lot more."
Brind'Amour praised his team's overall effort against a strong opponent: "Against that team... you're kind of holding your breath every time certain guys get out [on the ice], but I thought tonight they had their chances and I thought we did a fairly good job against them."
The Hurricanes will practice before facing Tampa Bay at home next.
