The North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality’s Division of Coastal Management will conduct a public hearing regarding the Mid-Currituck Bridge project. The hearing is scheduled for March 18, from 5-7 p.m., at the Town Hall in Duck, located at 1200 Duck Road. This session aims to gather public comments on the Coastal Area Management Act (CAMA) application submitted by the North Carolina Department of Transportation and the North Carolina Turnpike Authority.

NCDEQ previously announced that NCDOT's CAMA permit application was deemed complete as of January 7, 2025. The proposed bridge project, identified as TIP No. R-2576, involves construction over Currituck Sound from Aydlett to south of Corolla and includes improvements to existing roadways in Currituck and Dare Counties. The application is available for review at the DCM office in Morehead City or online.

The public can register to speak at the hearing starting at 4 p.m. on-site via a sign-in sheet. Written comments are also welcomed and may be submitted until April 17, 2025. Comments can be mailed to Tancred Miller, Director of the Division of Coastal Management, or emailed with “Mid-Currituck CAMA application” as the subject line.

All feedback received will contribute to the final decision on whether to grant the permit. Those interested in receiving notification about this decision can request it in writing.
