Amazon is expanding its fleet of electric vehicles as part of its commitment to achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2040. The company is implementing various initiatives to transform operations and positively impact local communities, including investing in nuclear power for data centers and using lower-carbon materials for building facilities.

A significant aspect of Amazon's efforts involves introducing electric vehicles globally to deliver packages with zero tailpipe emissions. This initiative aims to improve air quality and reduce noise pollution. Amazon selects different vehicle makes and models based on regional needs, considering each vehicle's unique strengths.

The company's e-cargo bikes include two-, three-, and four-wheel models equipped with motors for pedal assistance. These bikes are particularly useful in congested urban areas, helping reduce traffic congestion and emissions. Since 2019, Amazon has tested e-cargo bikes in New York City and launched over 60 micromobility hubs across more than 45 European cities.

In India, where two-wheelers dominate the market, over 80% of Amazon deliveries use these vehicles due to their maneuverability and cost-effectiveness. Additionally, Amazon collaborates with manufacturers to develop three-wheel electric goods vans that match the capacity of traditional four-wheel vehicles.

Amazon also deploys custom-designed electric delivery vans developed with Rivian. These vans do not require special licenses but necessitate additional training for drivers. In India, Amazon plans to introduce over 1,000 light and medium-duty trucks within five years, adding to the existing fleet of over 10,000 electric vehicles already operating in the country.
