Duke Energy has successfully restored power to over 31,000 customers in areas of southwest Ohio and Northern Kentucky, following severe storms that caused outages as of 11:45 a.m. Approximately 30,000 customers remain without power due to high winds and heavy rain impacting infrastructure east of Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky.
Duke Energy crews are actively repairing the damage. "Our teams made significant progress overnight, repairing broken poles and downed power lines, and we’re bringing in line crews from sister utilities and other states in the Duke Energy service territory to assist," stated Amy Spiller, president of Duke Energy Ohio/Kentucky. The focus remains on restoring service efficiently and safely, with gratitude expressed for customers' patience.
In the power restoration process, large power lines and infrastructure that return power to a large number of customers are prioritized. This is followed by repairs impacting individual neighborhoods and homes.
Customers can report power outages via the Duke Energy website, mobile app, text, or automated phone system. Updates on outages can be received through text, phone, or email.
Duke Energy emphasizes safety by urging customers to avoid downed power lines and reporting them immediately. In cases where a power line falls on a vehicle, individuals are advised to stay inside unless there's an immediate life-threatening situation. More safety tips can be found at the Duke Energy website.
The company cautions against scams that often follow storms, advising customers that Duke Energy will not demand payment details over the phone or ask for prepaid credit cards.
