The City of Raleigh has announced the opening of its application cycle for small business grants, taking place from April 3 to April 27. Two key grant programs are available to encourage the growth and development of commercial spaces within the city.
The Building Up-fit Grant aims to assist small business owners who wish to activate vacant or underutilized commercial spaces. This grant provides a 1:1 match reimbursement up to either $15,000 or $25,000, based on qualified expenses. Eligible improvements include interior work like mechanical, electrical, and plumbing for build-out, HVAC, fire suppression, flooring, lighting, and various permanent fixtures. The grant excludes residential properties, properties located outside Raleigh, and exterior projects.
Another offering is the Facade Rehabilitation Grant program, which supports small business owners in enhancing the exteriors of their commercial buildings. Matching reimbursement grants of up to $10,000 are available for exterior renovations. Eligible projects include the removal of false fronts, repairing or replacing windows, doors, cornices, facade materials, and exterior lighting. The grant also covers exterior painting if part of a broader rehabilitation effort.
