The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS) will conduct a live fireside chat and tele-town hall on April 10 from 6 to 7 p.m. The purpose of the event is to discuss the support available for mental well-being, locating resources, and obtaining help during a mental health crisis.
Lisa DeCiantis, Chief Clinical Officer at NCDHHS, Sandy Feutz, Chief Operating Officer at RHA Health Services, and Holly Provance Doggett, Executive Director of NAMI North Carolina, will participate in the discussion.
According to the data, nearly one in four adults in North Carolina have reported symptoms of anxiety or depression. Mental health crisis services are available for all ages to assist with social or family situations, depression, anxiety, thoughts of suicide, substance use, or simply for conversation. These services offer "non-judgmental, confidential and compassionate care to connect North Carolinians with resources and support — available at little or no cost."
The fireside chat will be streamed live on the NCDHHS Facebook and YouTube accounts, where viewers can ask questions. Additionally, a tele-town hall will allow participants to join by phone, listen, and submit queries by dialing 855-756-7520 Ext. 120794. During the event, panelists will cover topics such as locating mental health information and resources, understanding what crisis services are, how to access them, and knowing when to seek help.
A new Crisis Services page has been recently launched by NCDHHS. It provides detailed information in English and Spanish and includes a searchable map for community crisis centers. The page also offers a zip code search feature for finding mobile crisis teams. For immediate support, individuals are encouraged to call, text, or chat with 988, which is available 24/7. Additionally, assistance from a Peer Warmline is accessible at 855-PEERS-NC, and trained mobile crisis teams can be dispatched to meet people in safe locations at low or no cost. Community crisis centers are also available for immediate, in-person assistance from licensed clinicians.
