Leaders from the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS) will join officials from the Wake County Sheriff's Office to introduce new mental health treatment options. The announcement will occur during a news conference on Monday, April 14, 2025, at 4 p.m. at the Wake County Detention Center in Raleigh.
This event will launch capacity restoration services for defendants with mental illnesses who the court has deemed incapable of proceeding to trial. The program, known as NC RISE, seeks to ensure accessible mental health care for all state residents. It will expedite the judicial process for these defendants by addressing both legal and behavioral health systems in North Carolina.
Those speaking at the event include Sheriff Willie Rowe and Secretary Dev Sangvai. The press conference will include presentations and a Q&A session with the media.
The event will be held at the Wake County Detention Center, located at 3301 Hammond Road, Raleigh, NC, 26703. Credentialed media should arrive by 3:45 p.m. and RSVP to news@dhhs.nc.gov.
NC RISE is intended to support and improve mental health care and judicial process efficiency.
