UNC Health has announced that two of its physician-researchers have been recognized by the Triangle Business Journal as recipients of the 2025 Health Care Leadership Awards. The publication highlighted profiles of all awardees on April 10.
Dr. Edwin Kim, an associate professor of medicine in the division of rheumatology, allergy, and immunology at the UNC School of Medicine, was honored in the Innovator/Researcher category. Dr. Kim leads the Food Allergy Initiative at UNC-Chapel Hill and has been involved in food allergies research for over 10 years. He manages cases involving a variety of food allergies including milk, egg, wheat, soy, and nuts. Dr. Kim aims to advance clinical research to aid children, like his own, in overcoming allergies. His research recently received attention from National Geographic for its contribution to medical advancements in 2024.
Dr. Stephanie Duggins Davis was named Doctor of the Year. Known for her expertise in cystic fibrosis and rare lung diseases, Dr. Davis has a 25-year career that includes leadership in teams securing funding exceeding $40 million for research. She has over 200 publications on these topics and has served in key roles such as Chair of the American Board of Pediatrics Board of Directors. In late 2023, Dr. Davis was involved in collaboration efforts for a new North Carolina Children’s Hospital, working with leaders at Duke Children’s to enhance cooperation between the institutions.
The two awardees have made significant contributions to their respective fields, leaving a mark on the broader medical community.
