If you own property in a local historic district, you can install solar panels to make your building more sustainable. This can be accomplished through the Major or Minor Work Certificate of Appropriateness (COA) process. Solar panels installed on a flat roof and/or are not visible from the street are usually submitted through the Minor Work process. These are approved by staff. Solar projects that are highly visible from the street may still be able to be installed but will need review through the Major Work COA process. To learn more about the COA process and to get started with your solar panel project, visit the main COA webpage.

This program supports the Raleigh climate action plan. Learn more about how to make your property more sustainable.
