The Carolina Hurricanes are preparing for a cross-conference game against the San Jose Sharks on December 10, 2024. The match is set to take place at 7:00 p.m. ET and will be broadcasted on FanDuel Sports Network South and available for listening on 99.9 The Fan and the Hurricanes App.

Currently, the Hurricanes hold a record of 17-9-1, placing them third in the Metropolitan Division with 35 points. Their last game resulted in a narrow 4-3 loss to the New York Islanders on December 7. In that game, Andrei Svechnikov scored twice, both on power plays, while Shayne Gostisbehere provided three assists. Despite outshooting their opponents significantly in the third period, they were unable to recover from a two-goal deficit.

Andrei Svechnikov has been performing well recently, accumulating six points over his last two games after a quieter stretch. He is now tied with Martin Necas for the team lead in power play goals. Necas has also been impressive, earning NHL's First Star of the Month for November and leading the league with 42 points this season.

In goal, Pyotr Kochetkov might start again following his recent performance, although newly signed Dustin Tokarski could also make his debut as a Hurricane.

The San Jose Sharks have shown improvement since their early-season struggles but have lost their last two games. They recently acquired goaltender Alexander Georgiev in a trade with Colorado Avalanche to bolster their defense. Mikael Granlund and Macklin Celebrini have been standout players for San Jose this season.

In terms of injuries, Hurricanes' goaltender Frederik Andersen is expected to be out for several weeks due to knee surgery. Forward Jesper Fast will miss the entire season.

Following this matchup, the Hurricanes will continue their homestand against the Ottawa Senators on December 13 during Pride Night at Lenovo Center.
