Lenovo Center | Carolina Hurricanes
The Carolina Hurricanes secured a 3-2 victory against the San Jose Sharks at Lenovo Center on Tuesday, marking their 82nd consecutive sellout. The win was propelled by third-period goals from Brent Burns and Jalen Chatfield, overcoming a one-goal deficit.
Burns tied the game at 4:11 in the final period with a goal assisted by Sebastian Aho and Martin Necas. Chatfield scored the decisive goal with 2:39 remaining, beating Sharks' goaltender Vitek Vanecek.
Carolina initially took the lead with Shayne Gostisbehere's first-period goal but conceded twice to enter the third period trailing. Pyotr Kochetkov recorded 20 saves on 22 shots for his 12th win of the season.
The Hurricanes achieved all three goals at even strength, an area they have aimed to improve. "We need to find consistency," said Gostisbehere regarding their performance. Despite recent reliance on power plays, this marked their eighth win without such contributions this season.
Gostisbehere continues to perform strongly, having reached 25 points in 28 games—a personal record pace—and ranking fifth among NHL defensemen. Meanwhile, Burns remains effective in crucial moments despite a slower scoring pace.
Coach Rod Brind'Amour acknowledged San Jose's talent and praised his team's resilience: "We found a way... Sometimes when your back's against the wall, that's what ends up happening." Jalen Chatfield emphasized team character in facing adversity and bouncing back effectively.
Brent Burns highlighted league challenges and stressed team belief: "It's tough every night... We believe in each other and we help each other."
The Hurricanes will rest Wednesday before returning to practice Thursday ahead of Friday’s game against Ottawa Senators for Pride Night at Lenovo Center.
