Duke Energy Florida and its foundation have pledged a total of $75,000 in grants to various Habitat for Humanity organizations across Florida. This contribution builds on the company’s continued commitment to affordable housing, bringing its total investment in the state to over $200,000 since 2020.
Melissa Seixas, Duke Energy Florida state president, stated, “Habitat for Humanity builds homes, communities and hope. Supporting nonprofit organizations like Habitat for Humanity allows the company to improve the vitality of the communities we serve while making a lasting difference in the lives of individual customers.”
The grants include $5,000 to Habitat for Humanity of Seminole County and Greater Apopka, $20,000 to Habitat for Humanity of Lake Sumter, and $30,000 to Habitat for Humanity Tampa Bay Gulfside. Moreover, Duke Energy has allocated an additional $20,000 to support the operational needs of these nonprofit organizations throughout the year.
Mike Sutton, CEO of Habitat for Humanity Tampa Bay Gulfside, expressed gratitude, stating, "We appreciate the support from companies that recognize the significance of affordable homeownership and the need to assist hard-working families within our communities."
Beyond financial support, Duke Energy employees will participate in building homes in west Orange and Citrus counties later this year, contributing their time, labor, and fostering a sense of community.
Since 2020, Duke Energy Florida and its foundation have contributed over $200,000 to Habitat for Humanity in Florida. This is part of a broader initiative by Duke Energy, totaling $1 million in donations and over 10,000 volunteer hours dedicated across various jurisdictions.
Duke Energy Foundation annually distributes more than $30 million in philanthropic support to meet community needs. Funded by Duke Energy shareholders, the Foundation supports communities where the company operates.
