The City of Raleigh Museum will host a lecture titled "Born to Heal: African Americans in Medicine" on November 15. The event will delve into the contributions of African Americans to the medical field during the 19th and early 20th centuries.

Dr. Chad Swanson, DO, MPH, and La’Cura Venable, MA, LPN, are set to lead discussions on significant historical figures such as Dr. Lawson A. Scruggs and institutions like St. Agnes Hospital. They aim to highlight how Black medical practitioners overcame challenges posed by racism and Jim Crow laws.

This educational program receives partial support from North Carolina Humanities, affiliated with the National Endowment for the Humanities. The lecture is open to all ages, free of charge, and does not require prior registration.
